Marine Spatial Development Became One of Fisheries and Marine Indonesia Strategies

[Unpad.ac.id, 17/11/2016] One of the government’s efforts in the development of fisheries and marine Indonesia is the presence of marine spatial strategy. According to the Director of Marine Spatial Planning of Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Dr. Ir. Subandono Diposaptono, M. Eng., marine spatial planning is necessary to ensure their sovereignty, sustainability, and social welfare.

It was delivered by Dr. Subandono as Keynote Speaker at the National Seminar “Synergy Technology, Law, and Policy Division Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Towards Food Sovereignty in MEA era” held by Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) in Bale Atikan (Unpad Training Center) Jln. Ir. H. Juanda 4 Bandung, Thursday (17/11).

Through marine spatial, there will be legal power plays. As for the “sovereignty” it is meant not only the region, but also food sovereignty. Through marine spatial, it is also securing their sustainability, including the sustainability of natural resources and maritime professions.

“To provide legal force utilization of space in the sea, to have its legal certainty for the public as well as making investment,” said Dr. Subandono during his presentation of marine spatial functions.

According to Dr. Subandono, often conflicts sea space utilization and use of marine resources are not appropriate. Therefore the importance of a marine spatial is managed in an integrated manner.

Furthermore, he explained, in the future, for those who would exploit or inactive in the sea needs to have location permits. “Location permit is essentially a marine spatial plan or the zoning plan. It is set in the Act of Law. Therefore the activities would be carried out in the manner intended, “he explained.

This national seminar was officially opened by Dean of FPIK Padjadjaran University, Dr. Ir. Iskandar, M.Si. Besides Dr. Subandono, this event also featured speakers, namely Dr. Chay Asdak from Universitas Padjadjaran, Dr. Hefni Effendi from Bogor Agricultural University, and Hendra Sugandhi of the Indonesian Tuna Association.

More than 150 participants attended the seminar, which will feature the oral and poster presentations. Participants came from various institutions from all around Indonesia. They are academics, practitioners, and observers in the field of fisheries and marine. *
