Unpad and UPH Organize Training on Information Literacy Organized for Librarians

[Unpad.ac.id, 9/04/2013] Literacy communities, particularly in Bandung, have recently grown rather rapidly due to a concern in the ever decreasing interest in reading. Indonesians, according to a survey result from United Nation Development Programme (UNDP), only read one book in average.

Speaking in the training, Ninis Agustini from Faculty of Communication Sciences (FIKOM), on Tuesday (9/4) in Oemi Abdurrachman Hall, argues that literacy communities aim at creating literate community members and promoting learning throughout the communities. Tobucil and Klabs, Rumah Buku Kineruku, Potluck Coffee Bar and Library, Zoe Café and Library, and Optimus are among the many communities that promote literacy. “Literacy communities are the very media where society members express and build literate individuals,” said she.

The three day training was organized by the Library Science Department Fikom Unpad in collaboration with the Johannes Oentoiro Library Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH).  As many as 28 librarians from various instances in Yogyakarta, West Java, and Sumatera.
