Interested in intellectual property rights management in campus, JICA visits UPT HKI Unpad

[Unpad.ac.id, 30/07/2013] Two Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) representatives visited Unpad on Monday (29/07) to study the implementation of intellectual property rights (HAKI) in campus.

Unpad vice rector of research, community service, and cooperation, Dr. med. Setiawan, dr., head of intellectual property right office (HKI UPT), Miranda RIsang Ayu, S.H., LL.M., PhD., deputy and secretary of UPT HKI Dr. rer. Nat. Ir. Suseno Amien and Dr. Evie Ariadne Shinta Dewi, Dra., M.Pd. hosted the meeting with their guests, who are also the chief advisors of JICA Indonesia, Nagahashi Yoshihiro and Kuroda at Unpad rectorate building in Jatinangor.

“I understand that Unpad HKI office has been performing excellent management. We are very much interested and would like to gain more information about its implementation,” said Yoshihiro.

It is quite often that intellectual property rights are violated. In many Indonesian markets, one can easily find, for example, fake Japanese products. “In relation to this, we are encouraged to stop this from continuing by stressing the importance of intellectual property rights,” he added.

In response to that, Suseno Amien explained that his office has several purposes, namely managing intellectual property rights, increasing people’s awareness of the rights, formulating the rights, commercializing the rights, and establishing cooperation programs with related stakeholders.

“We have yet to commercialize our products, but we provide incentives for our researchers to get their research pieces patented,” said the head of HKI office, Miranda Risang Ayu. Unpad HKI office has been organizing road shows, workshops and trainings to promote intellectual property rights.

It is expected that both parties will work on further partnership programs, facilitating various Japanese industries.
