West Java Capacity Strengthen Required University Contribution

[Unpad.ac.id, 16/09/2016] West Java Province becomes the province with the highest population number in Indonesia. Aside of its many potentials, various issues have become a task for the Provincial Government. Attempt of contribution of various parties, especially academics in universities, is needed to provide a solution of the problems.

Rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad said that Unpad is committed to contribute in building West Java. This effort is driven by the active role of the university and faculty at 27 City/Regency in West Java by the Strategic Alliance Program of Universitas Padjadjaran in West Java (ASUP Jabar). This synergy aims to speed up development in each City/Regency in West Java through academic contributions.

“With our efforts to deliver at a wide range of areas, we believe there could be a correction of the academic view of the reality. The other side believes we also got inspiration from reality to obtain supplies other academic findings, “said Rector during the opening of “West Java Development Conference II “at Bale Sawala Jatinangor Unpad Campus, Friday (16/09).

Activities as part of the commemoration of the 59th Unpad Anniversary were held to get on strengthening areas in West Java through academic capacity. The conference speakers were Professor of Social and Political Science, Prof. Dr. Dede Mariana, M.Si .; Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Prof. Dr. Rina Indiastuti, S.E., M.SIE .; FH Unpad lecturer, Dr. Indra Perwira SH., MH .; Chairperson of the Disaster Research Center Geopark and Geology, Prof. Ir. Mega Fatimah Rosana, PhD ,; Deputy Mayor of Banjar, H. Darmadji Prawirasetia., And Secretary of Pangandaran Area, Mahmud, SH, M.H.

In her presentation, Prof. Rina said that West Java has the prospect of the sector strength which are the diversity of the natural resources, long lasting economic structure, diverse technology and human resources, as well as the variety of commodity sectors, ranging from agriculture, industry to services involving 27 City/Regency,

Despite the promise, productivity in West Java is slow. Prof. Rina said that these delays occurred in all commodity sectors. In addition to slowed productivity, another problem is the proliferation of social inequality, inadequate infrastructure, to the slow Human Development Index (HDI).

Furthermore, Prof. Rina said that West Java had the opportunity in terms of strengthening competitiveness through diffusion of knowledge with technology. “Being closer to the real world of academics also became part of the diffusion. The chances are very great, “said Prof. Rina.

In strengthening attempt, the government is no longer limited to promote the progress of development, but it also involves in collaboration with various sectors. The strengthening of competitiveness will be more targeted on a bottom-up process, therefore all individuals and institutions have a responsibility.

Meanwhile, Dr. Indra Perwira said that there are social issues and culture in West Java that should be of concern Unpad. “It is easy to fix the legal, political, and economic. But the broken social aspect becomes crucial, “said Dr. Indra.

In relation with programs ASUP Jabar, Prof. Dede, who also serves as Chairperson of ASUP Jabar Programs explained that there are three main steps of ASUP Jabar work programs. For short-term programs there are the strengthening of database, data harmonization and updating of data development areas in West Java.

Medium-term program is targeting the optimization of regional planning database, preparation RPJPD, RPJMD, strategic planning, RKPD, working plan on education in the City/Regency in a more targeted and measurable way. The other program is the downstream process and research results Padjadjaran University in the District/City. *
