Starting New Academic Year, Unpad is Applying Single Tuition Rate (UKT)

[Unpad.ac.id, 13/03/2013] Unpad will apply single tuition (UKT) for all freshmen admitted in the university. As for sophomores, juniors, and seniors, the same payment method still applies.

“The amount of UKT is the remainder of unit cost after it is deducted by the subsidies from the government through the ministry of culture and education. Now, we’re still waiting for the ministry to issue the decree on it to make it official,” said Prof. Dr. Rina Indiastuti, SE., MSIE, vice rector of planning and finance.

Single tuition also means that the Development Fee (DP) that Unpad students must pay once they enter the university is integrated into regular tuition that they will have to pay each semester. Last year, the smallest amount of DP that a student must pay was Rp. 4 million in a single installment once he/she was admitted in the univesity. When UKT is applied, the amount will be divided into eight installments, paid in each semester.

“So, basically, it is about payment method. There will not be any increase of payment,” said Prof. Engkus, vice rector of learning and student affairs.

UKT is recommended by the minister of culture and education via recommendation letter number 97/e/ku/2013 on single tuition. The recommendation letter signed by the directorate general of higher education, Djoko Santoso, requires all universities to omit development fee and apply single tuition for undergraduate students starting academic year 2013/2014.

Both Kuswarno and Indiastuti confirmed, the economically disadvantaged students no need to be worried, because various facilities that will help them can be accessed.

“There is Bidik Misi scholarship for 900 students. Unpad also has the Sauyunan scholarship, funded from cross subsidies. Students with financial disability will not have to pay for tuition or fees until they graduate. Last year, 5.594 students got scholarships from 44 institutions worth more than Rp 45 billion,” said he.*
