Director of Education Unpad Prof. Dr. Budi Setiabudiawan, dr., SpA(K), M.Kes., said that HITS program was an implementation from TPB in Unpad aiming to out forward learning process for happiness.

“If we create comfortable and happy environment, both students and lecturers would enjoy the learning process,” said Prof. Budi during the opening of “Workshop Counselor Lecturer Role in HITS Program for New Students 2016” in Unpad Training Center, Jln Ir. H. Djuanda No.4, Bandung, Wednesday (18/05).

Participating in the workshop lecturers from all faculties, of counselors the members of Executive Team Counseling (TPBK), Universitas Padjadjaran. The workshop was held until Thursday (19/05). Having put forward the concept of “happiness” HITS program also included application of integrated learning with a variety of disciplines and transition. This was done so that Unpad graduates would be more beneficial to society.

Furthermore, Prof. Budi explained, the application of TPB in Unpad would not substantially increase credits, courses, or change the existing curriculum in the study program. This program simply repositioned the compulsory courses that already exist in each study program, such as: Religion, Pancasila and Citizenship, as well as Indonesian and English.

“The subjects are in every department of the different implementation. Now, everything is given in the first semester, “he explained.

On the implementation of joint courses, new students from all study programs would join in one class. Each class would consist of 40 students. Aside from the course, students returned to the course of study programs that have been identified by each study program.

“TPB is a small part of the overall curriculum,” added Prof. Budi.

In HITS program, new students were prepared to adapt to the learning systems in higher education. In addition, this program is expected to form the character of university students, which is different than the character of students.

In addition to facing global challenges, HITS program also aimed to prepare students in facing internal challenges, both academic and non-academic. Prof. Budi explained that an internal challenge in question included an increase in the percentage of students who completed their studies on time, increase in the CPI, and minimizing dropout rate.

“The problems perhaps occur because students were not ready to adapt to the academic environment at university,” said Prof. Budi.

Through this workshop, Prof. Budi expected the TPBK lecturers’ contribution in addressing these challenges. “How to address the challenges would begin on TPB (HITS),” he said.

Therefore the plan was to have each class in Joint Preparation Stages to be coordinated by one homeroom lecturer, a TPBK lecturer, as well as a senior student companion. The workshop also discussed a variety of possible problems that would be experienced by new students. *
