Students of German Literature Unpad Participated in Student Exchange with German Literature Department in Ramkhamhaeng University Thailand

[Unpad.ac.id, 2/08/2016] 10 students of German Literature Faculty of Arts, Universitas Padjadjaran participated in German exchange student with Faculty of Humanities Department Ramkhamhaeng University (RU), Thailand, July 24 until August 14. The delegation was accompanied by Head of German Literature Study Program FIB UNPAD Dr. Phil. Dian Ekawati, M.A., as well as a lecturer in German Literature Unpad FIB Cucu Finalia, M. Hum.

In the release received by Unpad PR, it is mentioned that the purpose of these activities are to extend cooperation and to increase students’ ability in German in theory and in practice. Ten students were selected after qualifying academic selection and interviews were conducted with DAAD Lecturer at Padjadjaran University.

The curriculum at RU has some similarities with Unpad. Therefore, during the exchange there, students attended two compulsory lectures for Business German and German for Tourism. Two grades from these classes will be implemented in the class of Deutsch für Wirtschaft and Deutsch für Tourismus in Unpad.

Students also participated in three other compulsory elective courses and two courses of specialization, as well as received additional courses in Thailand every Monday and Friday. During these events, every two students are accompanied by a tandem partner that will help the process of adaptation and dissemination.
While the two lecturers students will also do visitation in compulsory subjects and in several other subjects. Students will also be invited by the RU to visit some tourist attractions in Thailand.

The group was received officially by President of Ramkhamhaeng University, Asst. Prof. Wutisak Lapcharoensap, Vice President of International Cooperation Affairs RU, Chairman of the German Department, and one native speaker of German on 25 July. Afterwards, the group also received officially by the Faculty, which was attended by the Dean, Vice Dean of the areas of cooperation, the staff member German Department, the head of department in the Faculty of Humanities, and the tandem partners.

In the event, this student exchange held detailed discussions regarding the plan for further cooperation, including long-term program of making ASEAN regional textbook for Deutsch für Wirtschaft and Deutsch für Tourismus classes, research cooperation, as well as the development of lecturers.

Supervisor in the student exchange activities will also be doing visitation at mandatory classes and others. Students in addition to following the academic activities will also included by the RU for excursions to some of the tourist attractions in Thailand.

During the reception with RU leadership, the planned signing of the MoU between Unpad with RU was also discussed. With the MoU it is expected to open up other opportunities for cooperation with RU.

“In mid September 2016, several members of the teaching staff of the RU will visit Unpad to attend an international seminar on ASEAN Germanistic organized by Study Program of German Literature Unpad. On that occasion draft MoU would be signed. Meanwhile on September 26 until October 14 2016, RU students will perform exchange activities in the same program attended by Unpad students at RU,” said Dr. Dian. *
